BSND Program Specifications
The BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN NUTRITION AND DIETETICS Program is a four-year program consisting of general education subject and professional courses in food, clinical dietetics, nutrition sciences, biochemistry, anatomy & physiology, microbiology, public health/ community nutrition, food service system research, social sciences, management and communication.
HISTORICAL SKETCH
The University of the Immaculate Conception, formerly known as Immaculate Conception College, first offered BS in Food and Nutrition (BSFN) in 1976. In the 1980s, the program was called BS in Nutrition and Dietetics (BSND). UIC BSND Program was given government recognition by the Ministry of Education and Culture (MEC) number 013, s. 1982 as a four-year Nutrition and Dietetics course leading to the degree of Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics effective February 15, 1982. The recognition was granted by the Ministry of Education and Culture as per approval of Minister Onofre D. Corpuz. The BSND Program of UIC (ICC) is a pioneer in Region XI.
The curriculum has been revised by the Commission on Higher Education by adding important courses such as the Nutrition Care Process and other general courses intended for K-12 graduates. UIC integrated professional courses that are beyond the minimum to achieve the outcomes of the students and to respond to internationalization efforts of UIC.

GOAL
The University of the Immaculate Conception is a Catholic School that is an instrumentality of the Congregation of the Religious of the Virgin Mary that aims to provide within its community of students and personnel Catholic values. Its goal is to provide an educational program and environment animated by Catholic doctrine, beliefs, teachings, traditions, and practices, the exercise of which is protected by, among others, Article III, Section 5 of the 1987 Philippine Constitution.

PROGRAM EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
Demonstrate competence in professional and managerial nutrition and dietetics practice in the Philippines or abroad with respect to diverse cultures and values.
Adapt to changes in technological and international standards by engaging actively in nutrition and dietetics activities, continuous learning, and professional development opportunities with respect to culture and values that influence society.
Engage in professional activities reflecting a profound faith in God, inspired by the spirituality of humble service to a continuous search, and committed to a continuous search for excellence.
PROGRAM GRADUATE OUTCOMES
The Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics Program aims to produce graduates who:
assess the nutritional needs of individuals, communities and diverse cultures in various life stages and conditions based on standards set by national, international agencies and professional organizations;
undertake research and utilize research results in the performance of their jobs;
demonstrate the ability to plan and manage a foodservice unit in hospital or other settings using technologically updated techniques, tools and systems;
develop communication skills appropriate for entry-level jobs in Nutrition and Dietetics;
handle an educational session or program/educational strategy for a target population;
use appropriate counseling techniques to facilitate behavior change among individuals and families/groups;
integrate nutrition concerns with development efforts through a multidisciplinary and multi-cultural collaboration;
advocate the role of nutrition and dietetics for human well-being in relation to the needs, resources and potentials of individuals, groups and families;
manage nutrition programs for individuals, groups and institutions;
implement Nutrition Care Process to make decisions, identify nutrition-related problems through nutrition diagnosis, and determine and evaluate nutrition interventions, including Medical Nutrition Therapy, disease-prevention and health promotion;
conduct themselves in a manner consistent with the ethical standards of the profession; and
take responsibility for continuing personal and professional development.
